BALANCED, PROVEN & TESTED
A&I Products made a significant investment in precision balancer technology for augers over fifteen years ago, in 2009. This commitment has driven continuous enhancements in auger manufacturing, including increased tubing wall thickness, more robust shipping tubes, and stricter manufacturing specifications. Most A&I Products continuous flight augers are equipped with SuperEdge flighting, which is 3/16” thick or heavier. This advanced flighting design extends the working life and enhances performance. Conventional cold rolled flighting tends to wear down at the outer edge, where it is thinnest. In contrast, Super Edge flighting features increased thickness and a reverse taper at the outer edge, making it 30%-50% thicker than standard helicoid options and surpassing the outer edge thickness of any competing product.
All A&I Products continuous flight augers are manufactured, welded, and precision balanced in Rock Valley, Iowa. The process begins with the assembly of the driven and drive ends onto the tubing, whether they are splined, bolted, hex, or otherwise configured for the combine. The meticulous installation of tube ends ensures perfect alignment during welding, and tubes are measured to a maximum runout of .030” before flighting installation. After the flighting is hand-welded to the center tube using a table jig, the runout is verified again to not exceed .030”. The final balancing step is conducted at 250 - 500 RPM using IRD Mechanalysis technology, guaranteeing a smooth-running machine in the field.
A&I Products sets the standard for quality in the industry. In a competitive benchmarking test against aftermarket competitors, A&I Products compared its grain tank loading augers, focusing on wear monitoring of the flighting. The test ran for a total of 100 hours, with measurements taken every 10 hours. Initially, both the A&I Products auger and “Competitor A” auger had similar thickness, with A&I being slightly thicker, while “Competitor B” started significantly thinner. As wear progressed, excessive wear on the flighting edge could lead to grain damage and decreased performance, ultimately impacting sample quality and overall yield. The test results indicated that “Competitor B” experienced substantial radius loss around the 80-hour mark. As the flighting wears, the diameter of the auger decreases, creating more space between the flighting edge and the auger housing, which exacerbates grain damage and loss. Additionally, worn augers require more power to move grain. A&I Products’ auger maintained a clear advantage over “Competitor A” at the 30-hour mark and continued to perform well throughout the test, while “Competitor B” suffered significant thickness loss, reaching an 80% reduction within the first 30 hours.
If you’re in the market for an aftermarket combine auger, A&I Products offers a wide range of options in various types and sizes. From Bin Loading Augers to Bubble Up Augers, Clean Grain Augers, Grain Tank Augers, Tailing Augers, and Unloading Augers, you can trust the rigorous testing standards and quality of A&I Products augers. We provide augers compatible with Case-IH, Challenger, New Holland, Gleaner, John Deere, Massey Ferguson, and more. They are balanced, proven, and tested.
Super Edge Flighting
The Super Edge flighting features a raised edge that is integrally formed during manufacturing, rather than being added later through secondary welding. This innovative design enhances auger performance by providing superior wear resistance. The advanced flighting combines precise dimensions with a high-quality surface finish. With a thickness increase of 30% to 50% at the outer edge of the flights—specifically where augers experience the most wear—Super Edge flighting offers a significant advantage. The exact thickness gain varies based on the flighting dimensions. In addition to its enhanced wear resistance, Super Edge flighting maintains all the performance characteristics of traditional flighting, making it a clearly superior option. |
